Hello!!

I'm very sorry to write in English but I cannot write a Korean language with my computer at moment(only reading...sadness of commaeng..)
I also had same problem like you. I had to stay in Germany more than 3 months without visa & people also told me that if I visit the country outside EU & get stamp at the border & I can stay another 3 months. But IT WAS NOT TRUE!!!!! Actually everybody said different things so finally I asked to the office people at the border directly(Frankfurt airport border checking department) because they were 'the' people who deal with this kind of thing directly
& the final answer was:

-- a foreigner without visa can stay in Germany maximum 3 months per visit & total 6 months per year(more specifically 3 months staying is possible per 6 months). That means if you had spent 3 months already in Germany & go back to Korea you cannot come again for another three months! & staying 6 months straight without permission is not normally allowed!

-- all EU countries have connected system in checking the border so if somebody stays more than 3 months in EU, it's not legal.(so he can have a little bit problem in future visit or stay)

So from my experience traveling to outside of Germany whether it's EU nation or not(whether by car or airplane) does not work in this case.
I think it's better for you to ask the office people in Ausländeramt to prolong your stay or ask the German embassy in Korea about the problem. In my case the Ausländeramt prolonged my stay a little bit more(c.f. my staying object was not studying) & I think normally if you can prove that you need a little bit more time in studying I think you have some chance to proplong your stay officially but it also depends on luck, I guess.

I wrote it because I really do not hope that korean research students have any bad experience out of pure lack of information. I also had really confusing experience: lack of true information, a lot of guesses... & I wish you good luck!!!
